As of July 3, 2023, the latest estimate is that there are over thousands of Sudanese crossed the boarder to Chad after the atrocities committed by the Janjaweed/ Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the local population of Elgeneina on the basis of ethnicity. With the majority of refugees located in and around the Adré area. The influx of refugees began in April 2023, following the outbreak of violence against them in West Darfur, Sudan (ref. 1). They are in need of food, water, shelter, and medical care.
The Chadian government and humanitarian organisations are working to provide assistance to the refugees, and great efforts and generosity were highlighted by the actions of the Chadian people and their government. Nonetheless, the situation is challenging and the scale of the problem is huge. The rainy season has begun, which will making it difficult to access some areas, and the resources available are very limited in spite of local efforts. The UNHCR has called for urgent international assistance to help meet the needs of the refugees, as the scale of the problem needs real collaborative efforts from local, regional and international perspectives to help salvage this dire situation.

• Health risks: The refugees are at risk of contracting diseases, such as malaria, cholera, and typhoid.
• Psychological trauma: Many of the refugees have experienced violence and trauma, and they may need psychological support.
The international community can help the refugees in Adré by providing:

• Vocational training: this is divided into short and Long terms goals and also not classified as an urgent necessity and it depends on the situation and estimated timelines, nonetheless the refugees need help to find jobs and rebuild their lives, particularly recruiting some to help with the aid and humanitarian distribution within the very area they are residing in at the moment to help with the limited resource issue.
Furthermore, DARFUR Union send an appeal to the international community that they must continue to put pressure on RSF to end the siege of Elgeneina as latest reports highlighted that RSF are refusing some remaining local population from fleeing the city amid major security problems. The pressure may allow access to the city to address the severe food and medicines shortages to cater to the civilians of Elgeneina.
Moreover, DARFUR Union in the UK reiterate that there are a number of actions that needs to be taken with immediate effect to help cater for the victims of this catastrophic situation:-
* Provide immediate humanitarian aid to the people of Darfur, by securing safe passages of aid from Port Sudan to the affected areas, including food, water, shelter, medicine and other humanitarian supplies. Some the routes regarding the Humanitarian supplied, shorter routes for supplies to reach refugees in Adré can be accessible via the Cameroon-Chad via the Port of Douala.
* To put pressure the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces and its affiliated Janjaweed branches to stop the violence and allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need. This will help in terms of humanitarian organisations to collect real data on the death toll and also help in burying the bodies that are scattered on the ground in Elgeneina and other cities such as Kutum (ref. 2) and Zalingei (ref. 3).
* Establish safe zones in Darfur where civilians can be protected from the Janjaweed militias. This can only happen by empowering existing peace forces and providing them with a clear Mandate.
* Reactivation of Chapter 7 with respect to DARFUR. The UN Security Council needs to act immediately to do so to stop the war crimes and crimes against humanity that we are seen before the world eyes. Everyday a testimony is given from the survivors of the ethnic cleansing whom managed to escape Elgeneina. Mass killing, bodies left on streets. The Janjaweed and their partners are clear about their plan regarding DARFUR, secure DARFUR by creating havoc and mass atrocities, force displacement and demographic changes.
* Protect those IDPs and new waves of displace people that are shelterless at this very moment in DARFUR.
DARFUR Union in the UK warns that failure to take immediate actions regarding the situation in Darfur, will lead to series of further killing and human rights violations (ref. 4) and a non-reversible human catastrophe.
The juntas, Janjaweed and their allies from the political parties in the centre have caused this war, and the people of Sudan in the city of Elgeneina and other cities are suffering the outcome because of the political greed that justifies the means of achieving their ultimate goal of gaining absolute power, reminiscence of Omar al-Bashir Regime (ref. 5).
